Finding Your True North

Whether you’re a long-time reader or new to this newsletter, one of my top reasons for starting this was to help more business owners find their true north.

Of course, I want you to have those ‘pinch-me, I can’t believe this is my life’ financial moments—but never at the expense of your fulfillment.

I can’t tell you how many clients have come to me after blowing up their businesses because they were miserable.

The first time I made real money, I was miserable too. I know that might sound like an incredibly privileged problem, but when you sacrifice so much expecting it to feel a certain way—and it doesn’t—there’s a level of despair that’s hard to describe.

I was drinking more than ever, buying cars, shoes, and watches. Before I even bought the first, I was already thinking about the next. I had this insatiable hole inside that I couldn’t fill, only temporarily delay.

It took me destroying two businesses to realize that when someone makes money in business, one of two things happens:

Either they go external—seeking happiness through material possessions, substances, or relationships—or they embark on the less glamorous but far more rewarding internal journey, uncovering the hang-ups, insecurities, and attachments that need to be addressed.

I found that I was doomed to repeat the first path until I respected the second.

My hope is that you learn to be as content with $10M in the bank as you are when you’re $100k in the red.

So while this newsletter will give you tactical strategies to get more clients and build the business of your dreams, it will also focus on the person behind the business.

Because when you can be proud of the person who tackles difficult things, the business and money might not be easy, but they do become very simple.
