Use my unexpected source

Want to capture attention fast?

My surprising source of inspiration comes from childhood: Jackie Chan films.

Let me explain.

I’m a 5th-generation Chinese American who, as a kid, failed miserably at Saturday Chinese School.
In a last-ditch effort to teach me Cantonese, my mom let me binge on slapstick, kung-fu, and stunts from the master himself, Jackie Chan.

My Chinese didn’t improve much beyond telling my playground friends they had small peckers (a skill my mom was none too impressed with), but I did get a front-row seat to a masterclass in grabbing attention.

In the first 7 minutes of any Jackie Chan film, you’ll know:

  1. Who’s the good guy and who’s the bad guy.

  2. An emotional event that pulls you into the journey.

  3. And the major problem the hero wants to solve.

That same formula applies to your business. Whether you’re crafting a headline, sales page, email, or ad, the first seconds matter.

So, next time you write, ask yourself:

  • Who’s the hero (your ideal client) and what are they fighting against?

  • What emotional pain (internal) is pulling them in?

  • And what urgent problem (external) are you helping them solve?

Master this, and watch how much easier it is to grab—and keep—your audience’s attention.

Now make Jackie proud or you know … learn bad words and talk trash to your friends.

Cheers,
