Quality vs Quantity
This is Cooper—my sheepadoodle from hell.
Don’t let the cuteness fool you.
My wife jokes, “This is what you get when you pick based on looks alone.” And I’ll admit, she’s right.
Cooper isn’t a bad dog. He’s just perfectly bred for his job—herding and protecting a flock. But drop a high-prey-drive dog into a high-density city? It’s ripe for disaster.
So, every day we follow a strict routine:
Morning: 3.5 miles before the city wakes up.
Lunch: He runs a 6-minute mile on the treadmill.
Evening: Another 3.5 miles after dinner.
Why? Because those 8 miles provide brief windows of undistracted training—everything from interacting with other dogs, to handling people, to desensitizing him to the sound of the front door.
We started small—just 1-minute intervals of training. That’s all Cooper could handle.
After 90 days, it grew to 3 minutes.
At 6 months, 5 minutes.
Now, after a year, he can stay focused for 8-10 minutes at a time.
It’s been a monk’s practice in patience.
I bring this up because it’s no different in business.
And every time I’m asked, “How can I write better content, speak with more authority, or close more sales?” I think about Cooper.
The person who submits the highest quantity inevitably produces the finest quality of work.
Want to write better content? Write every day.
Want to close more sales? Pitch every day.
Want to speak with more authority? Speak every day.
Quality and quantity aren’t opposites—they’re partners.
The next time you’re tempted to procrastinate or wait until you’re “ready,” remember this:
Quantity creates quality.
It is one of the best lessons I’ve ever learned. And I hope it doesn’t take you buying a sheepadoodle to learn it.
Cheers,
