I.G.A.'s
Here’s something I used to teach when I was building sales teams for $800 million-dollar companies …
All that incessant worrying, all the anxious energy we carry—it often comes from our subconscious not knowing how to solve a problem. There are too many variables, too many failure points, and too much potential pain. It’s overwhelming.
But what if there was a way to quiet that chaos? Not by avoiding, numbing, or pretending it doesn’t exist, but by actually getting your mind to calm down.
Here’s the deal:
Big, hairy, audacious goals are great for daydreaming, but terrible for focus. When you're only focused on those long-term, distant outcomes, the path feels too big, too uncertain. That's when anxiety kicks in.
So, back when I was leading quarterly meetings with VPs and directors, the goal was always the same: break down those massive quarterly objectives into the smallest possible, trackable units.
We called these I.G.A.’s—Income Generating Activities.
What are I.G.A.’s? They’re the 1-2 small, actionable, trackable tasks that, if focused on, can solve 95% of a business’s problems. They’re deceptively simple, but the magic lies in their clarity and focus.
For business development, before it was about how many leads were acquired per day, it started with how many outbound messages were sent.
For sales teams, before tracking how many deals closed, it started with how many conversations were had.
For marketing, before measuring engagement and views, it started with how many pieces of content were created.
The point is, most businesses get stuck because of a lack of movement—and that’s usually caused by a lack of clarity. When you try to tackle everything at once, it becomes paralyzing. But when you narrow your focus down to the specific daily actions you can control, you begin to build momentum.
So here’s my question for you today:
What are your I.G.A.’s?
What are the 1-2 small, trackable tasks you can focus on every day that will drive your business forward?
If you’re feeling stuck, simplifying your focus could be the breakthrough you need.
Cheers,
