5 Unexpected Places To Grow Your Audience

5 Unexpected Places to Grow Your Audience

Most of you have heard me say that social media in 2020 lulled many of us into a false sense of marketing security.

Posting daily content was like a 2-in-1 shampoo—it nurtured your existing audience while simultaneously attracting new eyeballs.

Those days are long gone.

Try posting daily content today on Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, or X. You’re lucky if even a fraction of your existing audience sees your post, let alone new followers.

So, what’s a coach to do?

In a previous post, I talked about the ‘Order of Operations’ to save a failing business.

If you need support with improving your messaging or optimizing your marketing for conversions, these are great places to start.

But if those are dialed in, you might be at a point where you’re asking: “How do I get in front of my ideal client more consistently and at a higher frequency?”

Before I dive into “5 Unexpected Places to Grow Your Audience”…

Side note #1: I’m a huge believer that another non-competitive coach or business already has your audience. Positioning yourself as an expert in front of another audience is the fastest way to transfer trust. The higher the trust, the shorter the customer journey, meaning more clients and faster sales.

Side note #2: Some of you may be familiar with the term sponsorship, some not so much. Sponsorships are a marketing strategy where you pay a company, influencer, or coach in exchange for their promotion of your product or service.

Now that you’re all caught up, here are the “5 Unexpected Places to Grow Your Audience”:

  1. Micro-Influencers: There are many influencers on YouTube with 5k-15k subscribers who don’t know how to monetize their following. Some of them have your exact ideal audience. It takes real leg work, but with a DM and a couple of hundred bucks, you could potentially have them promote your guide, newsletter, or freebie in their next video.

  2. Podcasts: Not the easiest conversion because most of us listen to podcasts at the gym, picking up the kids, folding laundry, cooking dinner, etc. It takes a lot of effort to stop what we’re doing to go opt-in to something. But when someone does, it is a really high-quality lead. Go google “podcast directories” and you’ll find hundreds of databases searching for podcast guests and sponsorships.

  3. Newsletters: One of my favorite places to grow an audience. Your dream audience is probably already reading someone else’s publication. Both Beehiiv and Substack have their own newsletter directories. Find ones that match your ideal client’s interests and find out how much it costs to sponsor a classified.

  4. Guest Coaching: My guess is that another coach in a non-competitive field has your audience. Ever thought of offering to pay someone to guest coach in their container? The promise has to be that you won’t pitch or sell, but you can definitely offer your freebie.

  5. Masterminds & Keynotes: Just like guest coaching, other creators are looking for experts to speak on topics of expertise. Who do you know, or who can you seek out, that has your audience?

I hope these five ideas get the wheels turning in your brain.

If this is new to you, consider setting a goal of 2 opportunities a month and scaling up from there.

Over time, the goal is to understand how large your audience needs to be and how long they need to incubate in your marketing to have a steady stream of clients.

Cheers,
